Celebrating the Holidays in Your Dental Practice

Jul 02, 2026

The holidays are one of the best opportunities to build real relationships with your patients. People are already in a festive mood, which makes it the perfect time to turn routine visits into a better patient experience. A little creativity goes a long way toward making your practice feel less like a clinical stop and more like a place patients actually look forward to visiting.

Here are some fun, and easy ways to bring holiday cheer into your practice — and strengthen patient relationships while you're at it.

1. Deck Out the Office (and Let the Team Get Involved)

Simple seasonal touches — a decorated tree in the waiting room, festive garlands along the front desk, or a "guess how many items are in the jar" contest — instantly change the mood of a visit. Consider hosting a friendly team decorating contest between operatories or departments. It boosts staff morale just as much as it delights patients walking through the door. It also gives you something to talk about.

2. Costume or Theme Days

Invite the team to dress up or wear themed scrubs. Patients love the surprise, it makes for great social media content, and it gives your team something fun to bond over between appointments.

3. Holiday Photo Booths and Social Media Contests

Set up a simple photo backdrop in the waiting room — a festive wall, props, and invite patients to snap a photo and tag your practice on social media. You could turn it into a light contest: best photo of the month wins a small prize, like a teeth-whitening kit or a gift card. This is a great, easy way to generate authentic patient-created content for your practice's social channels, and simply have fun with your patients.

4. Send Handwritten Holiday Cards

In a world of automated appointment reminders, a genuine handwritten card stands out. You don't need to send one to every patient — start with your long-time patients or those who've had a tough year (a big treatment plan, a health scare, etc.). It's a small gesture that reminds people they're more than a chart number to your practice.

5. Host Holiday Events

This one's a patient favorite, have a simple open house, or fun days where you're seeing patients in the office and having holiday treats. It's a fun, tangible way to talk about oral health without it feeling like a lecture — and it reinforces your practice's role as a trusted, approachable resource for the whole family.

6. Gift Small, Useful Things

Even a little seasonal gift bag at checkout — a festive toothbrush, floss, or lip balm — is a small cost that leaves a lasting impression. Consider doing tiny gifts for Christmas, Father's Day and Mother's Day. Get creative! There is almost always someone on your team who loves this kind of thing and will volunteer to get everything set up. Patients remember practices that make them feel appreciated, not just billed.

7. Give Back as a Team

Consider organizing a practice-wide give-back initiative: a toy drive, a food bank collection bin in the waiting room, or a partnership with a local shelter. Patients notice when a practice is invested in the community, and it gives your team something meaningful to rally around together. You can also consider hosting these events in your office, or extending the toy drive, or things to your patients to be involved.

Why This Matters Beyond the Holidays

None of these ideas require a big budget or a complicated. What they have in common is intention — taking a moment that's already emotionally warm for people and using it to deepen trust in your practice. Patients who feel genuinely cared for, not just treated, are the ones who stay loyal, refer their friends and family, and actually look forward to their next visit.

The holidays are a built-in excuse to have fun with your patients. Take advantage of it — your team, and your patient relationships, will be better for it all year long.
