START NOW to avoid having a Sucktember
We’ve all heard the term Sucktember—because let’s be honest, September is known for being slow in dental. The kids go back to school, schedules tighten, people get busy, and Christmas starts creeping up. Whatever the reason, things tend to slow down.
But here’s the truth:
Not all dental offices are having a Sucktember.
Some are choosing to make it their best month yet—and you can too. Here’s how:
1. It Starts with Belief
Let’s get this out of the way first:
If you believe September is going to suck—it will.
If you don’t think it can be a great month where you blow your production out of the water… it won’t be. And your team won’t push for it either if you’re already setting low expectations.
So if you want September to be profitable? It starts with you. Your mindset. Your leadership. Your energy. Believe this can be one of your best months—and lead like it.
2. Start NOW When You’re Busy
Your schedules are likely slammed right now. Your team’s running on all cylinders, and reactivation is the last thing on your mind. But guess what? That’s exactly when you need to act.
Because if you wait until your schedule slows down, it’s too late.
Try starting these things today:
- Start a reactivation campaign now. Multiple touch points—text, email, phone.
- Keep your recall system strong and consistent.
- Block out time each week to fill your future schedule, not just manage your current one. Get the whole team on board and clarify each person’s role.
3. Plan a Special—And Talk About It NOW
Yes, it works. But you can’t wait until September to roll it out. Start talking about it now while you have high volume in the office. Think about what your patients care about this time of year:
- Back-to-school means sports: mouthguard specials.
- End-of-year is around the corner: “Use It or Lose It” insurance reminders.
- People are thinking ahead to the holidays: whitening, ortho, or smile goals.
- Get a jump start on talking about using end of the year benefits, a six month recall won’t be back into your office until December-prep them now.
Be creative, set a goal with your team, and track it.
At Dental Edit we don’t believe in Sucktember. Just because some practices slow down doesn’t mean yours has to. Don’t let your office experience Sucktember.
Lead with belief.
Take action early.
Set the bar high—and your team will rise to it.
You can choose to coast and accept a slow month.
Or you can choose to be intentional and make it profitable.
